The Ambassador highlights the deep historical ties connecting the two countries, going as far back as the Greek mythological story of Jason and the Argonauts. She also refers to the historical connection between the two countries via Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of the modern Greek state after the liberation from the Ottoman yoke. Greece's first governor, has strong ties to modern-day Slovenia as his noble family originated from Capodistria (now Koper, Slovenia), a connection celebrated with a statue and square named after him in Koper
