Suspect Perishes After Jumping From 100-Foot Bridge Following High-Speed Chase with WSP

A driver is dead after jumping from the Ship Canal Bridge while attempting to flee the scene of a crash early Saturday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident began around 1:48 a.m. when a trooper spotted a vehicle speeding on northbound I-5 near the bridge. As the trooper approached, the vehicle attempted to flee but quickly caused a three-car collision.
Despite damage from the crash, including the loss of the right front tire, the vehicle continued briefly before coming to a stop on the side barrier of the bridge. The driver then exited the car and jumped over the barrier in an attempt to escape, but did not survive the fall to the street below.
A passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody. Troopers noted the vehicle was not reported stolen but was missing license plates.
The incident remains under investigation.
