Hundreds of supporters of Honduras’ leftist Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) demonstrated outside the National Electoral Council in the capital, Tegucigalpa, rejecting the results of the country’s recent presidential election.
Protesters called for a full recount and verification of all tally sheets, accusing electoral authorities of irregularities. Libre candidate Rixi Moncada said the party would not recognise the election outcome without transparent vote counting.
The National Electoral Council declared conservative candidate Nasry Asfura the winner with 40.3% of the vote, narrowly ahead of Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla. The election followed weeks of delays, technical issues and fraud allegations.
