This past Saturday, March 7th, educators, community leaders, and elected officials gathered at the Isaías González-Soto Library to witness a truly historic and heartfelt moment. The library’s auditorium was officially named in honor of an extraordinary educator and trailblazer whose life’s work has helped shape generations of students in our community.

For more than three decades, Dr. Tamara O. Alsace has dedicated her life to education within the Buffalo Public Schools. She began her journey as a bilingual teacher, later serving as a special education teacher, and ultimately becoming Director of Multilingual Education (formerly the Buffalo Public Schools Bilingual Program). In every role she held, she carried with her a simple yet powerful belief: that every child, regardless of language, background, or circumstance—deserves the opportunity to succeed.

Today, that belief stands as a lasting legacy.

Dr. Alsace, on behalf of the Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, and the entire community of Buffalo, we extend our deepest gratitude.

Thank you for believing in our children and helping them believe in themselves.

A special thank you to the public officials, community members, and partners who came together to make this historic and meaningful celebration possible, including Goya Foods, Dinorah’s Arts & Crafts, Half Luna Empanadas, along with the staff and leadership of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library.

Together, we celebrated a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
