Spotted Turtles (Clemmys guttata) are endangered both provincially and federally. They are small turtles, usually less than 13 cm long, with striking yellow-orange spots. Its most significant threats include habitat destruction and illegal collection for the pet trade.
In the spring, the Southern Ontario At Risk Reptiles team surveys Spotted Turtle habitats to assess the population. During a survey in May 2024, Species at Risk Field Assistant, Rachael Skikos, found a male and female Spotted Turtle, and describes how she "spots" the difference in this video.
