Samples from the famous geological layer are analyzed for Iridium using the mass spectrometer or ICP-MS. The dinosaur mass extinction event was recorded in the geological record and I travelled to Colorado and New Mexico to gather some samples to be analyzed. This great idea was submitted by a viewer just like you! so keep them coming !
UPDATE: re-digested the K-T boundary dirt for an additional 3 hours and let it sit overnight . I re-ran it for Iridium and got 0.679 ppb ! twice as much as before and about 16 times the background!
