Fatah official meets top Egyptian diplomat in Cairo

In his second day of meetings in Cairo, a senior official from the Palestinian Fatah party met with Egypt's foreign minister.

STORY-LINE:
Egypt's top diplomat Sameh Shukry met on Tuesday in Cairo with Jibril Rajoub, a member of Fatah's central committee.
The meeting between Shukry and Rajoub comes a day after the Fatah official met with the Arab League chief in Cairo.
On Monday, Rajoub briefed journalists in Cairo about efforts to bring about a reconciliation between the Palestinian factions.
Because of Egyptian and Algerian efforts, there might be a "glimmer of hope" that the divided Palestinian rivals might be able to resolve their differences, Rajoub said on Monday.
Fatah is the political faction of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Fatah and Hamas have been bitter rivals since Hamas, an Islamic militant group, toppled Abbas' forces and seized control of Gaza in 2007.
Several attempts at a Palestinian reconciliation over the years have failed.
The Palestinians seek an independent state that includes all of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, areas Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war.
