This is a recording of the DASH Webinar 'Do we need better interfaces' that was hosted on October 5, 2022. This webinar was hosted by Esther Metting, Assistant professor and expert eHealth at the Data Science Center in Health (DASH).
When working with data as researchers, we tend to treat interfaces as functional elements that provide access to our object of study. In this talk, Prof Dr Anne Beaulieu explores what happens when we slow down and examine the interface as an important space of action that shapes what we do, and also how and what we know with data.
In this webinar, you will learn more about what it means to approach interfaces as practices rather than devices (objects or technologies). These insights will form the basis for the second part of the lecture, in which Beaulieu will address the follow-up questions raised by the title: Better, for what or for whom? Better, how? Interfaces have the potential to shape relationships between humans, machines and more-than-humans, and to support new kinds of research, but in doing so, ambiguity, complexity, exploration and multiplicity are of immense importance.
