For these phonics games we used:
Version 1 - Digging for Treasure inside the Snow
Items beginning with s - sun, sock, star, spoon
Items beginning with a - apple, ant, astronaut, ambulance
Letter s grapheme
Letter a grapheme
Bowl
Bucket
Tuff tray
Shredded paper

Version 2 Lucky Dip in the Snow
3 cvc objects- cat, sun, tin
Word cards - cat, sun, tin
Tuff tray
Shredded paper


Method
Version 1 - Digging for Treasure inside the Snow
Place the grapheme s onto a bucket and the grapheme a onto a bowl.
Hide the objects beginning with s and a into the shredded paper.
Dig for the treasure in the snow and identify which objects begin with the initial sound - ‘s’ and ‘a.
Sort the object so things beginning with ‘s’ are placed into the bucket and things beginning with ‘a’ go into the bowl.

Version 2 Lucky Dip in the Snow
Place 3 cvc objects into the ‘snow’ along with the matching words card.
Select a word card.
Blend to read the word card.
Hunt for the matching object in the snow. 
Continue until all the word card and objects are found and matched up.

Learning opportunities:
Linking sounds (phonemes) to letters (graphemes).
Hearing and saying the initial sounds in words.
Segmenting sounds in words to spell.
Blending sounds in words to read.
