What are the Layers of the Earth?
Layers of the Earth can be broadly distinguished into 4 parts which are:
1. the inner core,
2. the outer core,
3. the mantle, and
4. the crust
The outermost layer of the Earth consists of nickel and iron (which are heavier metals) because the Earth underwent a period of differentiation and the heaviest metals sank deep and the lighter ones rose to the outer surface.
The inner core is solid and is the hottest layer of the Earth. The outer core surrounds the inner core and consists of metals in liquid state. The mantle is mainly composed of silicate minerals. The top layer or the crust is the thinnest layer and houses different rocks like igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
