Romi and Sagiri Lamba’s collecting journey has spanned more than four decades and a variety of disciplines, from antiques to ancient textiles to Asian contemporary art, straddling cultures and cities thousands of miles apart. Honed over the past several years, their collecting practice has continuously branched out in new directions, exploring new mediums and cultures with each phase of their life.

The depth, breadth and quality of the objects in the Lamba collection are testament to Romi and Sagiri’s discerning eyes, dedication and prescience in seeing the brilliance of this art well before others fully took notice. Having acquired and served as the custodians of these works and many others over the course of the last three decades, the part played by the Lambas in the story of modern and contemporary Indian art is an important one, helping the field grow beyond the borders of South Asia.
