Agua e Vinho by Egberto Gismonti, performers O'Connor & England Guitar Duo

Описание: Sunday, November 23, 2025, CDZ Collegium Musica Guitar Concert Series, hosted by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, featured the England and O’Connor Guitar Duo.

The program featured two substantial ensemble works—Twelve Preludes by Japanese composer Hirokazu Sato (1966–2016) and Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D major, Op. 2 No. 2—along with several solo selections by each guitarist.

The Duo's performance... was spellbinding. Their rendering of the Adagio was especially moving, drawing an audible sigh from the audience as the final chord faded. Agua e Vinho by Edberto Giismonti was their encore piece.

After the concert, the performers engaged the audience in an insightful Q&A session. Several attending musicians from the Newport Symphony Orchestra praised the Duo’s dynamic range, tonal colors, and articulation. String players familiar with the Haydn work commented that they especially admired the Duo’s interpretation of Francisco de Fossa’s guitar arrangement of the work.

Additionally, the collegium sponsored guitar masterclasses, as well as music theory classes for guitarists.
