Learn about the innovative and intergenerational work of the Social Justice Sewing Academy (SJSA)!
In this presentation, the audience will hear from Sara Trail, Founder and Executive Director of the Social Justice Sewing Academy, and learn about the history of activist quilt making. The audience will then embark on a journey through the SJSA Community Quilt Process and the lifecycle of a social justice quilt block. In an effort to bring the process to life, the audience will hear from a youth activist, Juan Tapia, who will share his experiences making social justice fiber art with SJSA along with one of SJSA’s embroidery volunteers, Jeannine La Bate. Finally, learn about the inspiration that led to the development of the Social Justice Sewing Academy, and ways that you can support the next generation of young textile artists!
