The 20 year rule is the only rule that actually matters when it comes to protecting your VA benefits because it's the only rule where you VA rating cannot be reduced or taken away. 38 CFR § 3.951 the Preservation of disability ratings is the law that covers the 20 year rule. Veterans lying about disabilities are not covered under this rule because that is considered fraud! The term continuous refers to service-connected conditions that have maintained a certain disability rating for at least 20 years or more. A continuous rating can't be reduced and you will not receive a VA rating reduction notice because you are protected by the VA's 20-year rule.
