𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡: LAPD Confiscates Several Shopping Carts During Venice Beach Homeless Sweep

Описание: VENICE, CA — Wednesday, July 30, 2025 — A coordinated multi-agency cleanup unfolded Wednesday morning along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, as city crews and law enforcement officers worked to clear debris and enforce municipal regulations aimed at maintaining public safety and accessibility in one of Los Angeles’ most trafficked coastal areas.

Led by the Los Angeles Park Rangers, the operation included officers from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and sanitation contractors from Clean Harbors Environmental Services. Personnel removed accumulated items and addressed violations of Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 63.44(b), which prohibits unauthorized camping or lodging on city beaches and park property.

Among the primary focuses of Wednesday’s operation was the enforcement of LAMC Section 41.45, which governs the unauthorized removal and possession of shopping carts from private businesses. Officers confiscated several carts being used by unhoused individuals along the sand and boardwalk. The carts—many bearing business ownership labels—were deemed in violation and subsequently destroyed on-site or disposed of in sanitation trucks.

No arrests or citations were reported during the cleanup. Outreach workers with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) were also on hand, distributing water, food, clothing, and hygiene kits to individuals affected by the sweep.

Representatives from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office were present during the enforcement, signaling a continued policy approach that pairs municipal code enforcement with outreach and service delivery.

Under LAMC 41.45, unauthorized possession, abandonment, or use of business-owned shopping carts without written consent is prohibited and subject to fines of up to $50. Businesses are required to clearly post signage warning customers of these restrictions.

The operation is part of a broader citywide strategy to balance public use of shared spaces with the needs and rights of unhoused residents, while also addressing concerns from local businesses and residents over sanitation, obstruction, and safety.
