They’re lurking. Identity thieves. Credit vultures. Waiting to swoop in when you least expect it. But guess what? You can lock them out. Permanently hang a “Keep Out” sign on your credit. The Financialoscopy® Team will show you exactly how by the end of this video.
A credit freeze – also called a security freeze – is like putting a steel door on your credit file. It restricts access to your credit report. Without access? No new credit in your name, no sneaky loans, no impostors acting like you. In fact, with a security freeze, you can’t even apply for new credit.
Since 2018, everyone has the legal right to freeze and unfreeze their credit—for FREE.
Once someone steals your info—your Social Security number and your name—they can open accounts, max out credit, wreck your credit score. A freeze is the first line of defense. It forces anyone—creditors, lenders—to get your permission before opening anything in your name.
Here’s what the Financialoscopy® Team suggest you do to create your own plan of protection:
Contact all three major credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
You can go online right now and apply the freeze within one business day.
Have your private information at hand, like your name, address, Social Security number and date of birth.
Once your credit is frozen, if you need to apply for a loan, rent an apartment or open a new credit card; you can thaw the freeze. You can lift the freeze and ask for it to be lifted for a specific period of time – a couple of days, a week, a month or permanently. You are in charge of your credit. If you make the request online the thaw can happen within one hour.
Don’t confuse locks with freezes. A locks might cost you money; but, freezes are guaranteed free, by law.
You’ve got the power. You can freeze your credit, guard your name and stop the thieves.
So, how to you freeze your credit? Go to the Federal Trade Commission consumer advice site. Here’s the link:
Consumer.ftc.gov . Look for the little search spyglass, then simply type in the words – Credit Freeze. then follow the instructions the site provides. It’s that easy.
