Our first stop is Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia, where 17,000 years of human history rises right out of the earth. I walk the trails, explore the ancient mounds, and step inside the remarkable Earth Lodge — a ceremonial structure that will genuinely give you chills. The visitor center alone is worth the trip.
Then we hit the backroads and let Georgia roll by the windshield before pulling into Warm Springs — a quiet little town carrying an enormous piece of American history. The Little White House was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's personal retreat, and I take you through the entire property — the grounds, the history, and the deeply moving room where FDR passed away on April 12, 1945. Standing in that space is something you don't forget.
This one's got ancient civilizations, a beloved president, stunning Georgia scenery, and some beautiful backroad miles in between. That's a pretty good day.
