Dr. Selina Asante speaks on the common good as it relates to public health. Many careers in public service posits to serve the common good. The common good is interests that are shared and beneficial to the community. However, what if people are scared and unwilling to receive this beneficial service? Due to dental fear and anxiety, many people do not receive the care they need. Lack of access, lack of finance and poor education are all factors that posits challenges in public health dentistry.
Unlike other public service positions, public health dentistry faces unique challenges. Dr. Asante discusses the position of the dental community health coordinator and their role in navigating some of these challenges. She shares hope to continue the common good despite its challenges in the field of dentistry.
