This video explains stationing and the use of the traverse in horizontal alignment. Establishing the stations along a horizontal alignment or preliminary traverse to determine the location of the PI, PC, and PT moving from one horizontal curve to a tangent to the next curve.
PT = PI - T + L is the correct equation for horizontal alignment stationing for a horizontal highway curve [PT ≠ PI + T]
This is a convention used in horizontal alignment to establish the stationing of a roadway. The goal is for the stations to go along the centerline of the roadway and be a useful piece of information to document the length of the roadway along its centerline - in this way, the station values are meaningful (if we went from the PI directly to the PT, the stations no longer would correspond to the centerline measurement of the road).
