The area prepares for Queen Elizabeth II’s visit with the route bypassing Coronation Street and going through Rosamund Street. The residents plan to the best view while Ena (Violet Carson) cynically calls it "bread and circuses." Len (Peter Adamson) suggests Florrie (Betty Alberge) go to Europe with Emily instead. Minnie (Margot Bryant) offers to sell her rented TV for Charlie (Gordon Rollings). Val (Anne Reid) presses Ken's (Bill Roache) suit in case he is presented to her Majesty. Hilda (Jean Alexander) tries to focus on the visit. She’s curious about Florrie's business trip. Ena dismisses the royal excitement but reveals that she made a secret excursion to Queen Mary's funeral in 1953. Charlie avoids Ena as he still owes her money. A burst water main reroutes the procession to Coronation Street leading the street to be hastily decorated with decorations and bunting. Ken heads to college on his scooter and Minnie sets her table in case the Queen wishes to pop in for a cuppa. Mr. Kirby (Larry Burns) informs Charlie the district manager believes his story but it will have an impact on his probation. Cheering crowds are heard but the procession diverts back to the original route after the water main is repaired. The residents to Rosamund Street. Ken is presented to the Queen at the Tech and Charlie leaves the street at midnight.
