The Minnesota Wild jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Wednesday, but the Nashville Predators did what they’ve been doing as of late: coming from behind. Despite their best efforts, however, the Wild bested them in overtime, 6-5.
In the opening period alone, it was Nashville 3, Matt Boldy 3. The Minnesota winger and Team USA Olympian tallied his 30th, 31st and 32nd goals of the season in the opening 13 minutes. A highly skilled player, Boldy did get some help as his third goal redirected off of Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg who was trying to bat the puck out of the air.
For the home team, Filip Forsberg tallied on the power play, Erik Haula scored his 9th of the year and Steven Stamkos potted the 610th goal of his career, tying him with Hall of Famer Bobby Hull for 19th on the NHL’s all-time goals list.
The teams traded goals in the second and then the third before using extra time to settle it.
After nearly 4 minutes of keep away, Wild captain Jared Spurgeon took a Matt Boldy pass — his fourth point of the night, by the way — and put it past goaltender Juuse Saros for the overtime winner.
