Beneath the crystal clear waters of Tobermory, the "SCUBA diving capital of Canada", the Canadian Aquanauts launch their latest expedition. This time, they're searching for shipwrecks, and challenging themselves to complete a deep dive along an underwater section of the Niagara escarpment. The Canadian Aquanaut team is passionate about exploring Canada's hidden underwater gems. This film has the team traveling to some of the best shore diving sites in Tobermory, excellent for even beginners/novice divers.
Tobermory, located at the North end of the Bruce Peninsula (also known as the Saugeen Peninsula) in Ontario, Canada, borders Fathom Five National Marine Park. In the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, this park has sparkling blue water (thanks to invasive mussels, for better or worse), rugged shoreline scenery and the famous Flowerpot Island rock formations, accessible by (glass bottom!) boat tour. It's a great destination for hiking, camping, snorkelling, and world-renowned SCUBA diving on 24 (known) shipwrecks, in the heart of the Great Lakes. Lost shipwrecks are still being found in this area of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay. For instance, the steamship "Africa", sunk in 1895, was rediscovered near Larsen Cove in June of 2023. All this makes Tobermory an exciting destination for history buffs and divers of many different skill levels.
