In this month’s Art Talk, we’re discussing a vital (and often overlooked) part of a creative life: rest.
Artists are frequently caught on the hamster wheel of making, producing, promoting—so focused on momentum that it becomes hard to see the bigger picture. But stepping away matters. Taking breaks, vacations, and true days off helps our brains reset, restore perspective, and return with more clarity and creativity. Research consistently shows that time spent in nature and away from screens can significantly improve creative problem-solving and focus.
Instead of always asking how to push harder, try asking a different question:
How can I build in more pauses—more space to wander, daydream, and stare at the clouds?
