In November 2011 Bibian Harmsen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and a life expectancy of less than a year. We were just ready to record our third Emma Peel album and had started playing our new songs to see how they worked live. Bibian decided she wanted to do the album anyway, knowing she would never hear it completed, so in between chemo’s we recorded eleven songs at SSE. After that Bibian and me recorded another twelve songs in a country house in Meerle, Belgium, just me on the guitar and Bibian singing, mostly one-takers, knowing it was now or never, and that it would be our last recordings together in this world.
Bibian died July 25th, 2012, just forty-one years old. A couple of months later I started finishing the album with Finn Kruyning, adding backing vocals, guitar and percussion overdubs and some keys. Not too much though, we wanted to stay close to the original ‘live’ sound. Frans Hagenaars and me mixed the album at SSE.
