Taiwan comedian mocked Xi - then a car rammed him

Описание: Prosecutors in New Taipei, Taiwan, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, charged five men over a plot to ram a car into comedian Huang Yi-hao, who has mocked Chinese leader Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party on stage. They said an individual from mainland China identified as "K" paid the five to injure Huang badly enough to need hospital care, calling it "a serious incident in which the Chinese Communist party is suspected of using cross-border suppression tactics to direct lawless elements in our country to suppress dissenting political voices through extreme violence" (The Guardian).

According to prosecutors, a GPS tracker had been put on Huang's scooter months earlier; on Sept. 11 two of the men drove into him as he rode home, leaving him with a bruised pelvis, and K then refused to pay the full NT$450,000 (about US$13,900) because the injuries were only minor (The Guardian, citing prosecutors and Taiwan's Central News Agency). China's Taiwan Affairs Office did not respond to requests for comment. Huang said he would keep performing: "I write it because it's funny." Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council says at least 126 people have been affected by Chinese transnational repression.
