Odisha Rain Alert has intensified as a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal West Bengal-Bangladesh region is likely to move northwestwards and may intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours. The system is expected to move towards Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, bringing widespread rainfall to Odisha. The weather department has issued a red warning for Keonjhar, with the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while eight districts are under orange warning and other districts have yellow warnings. Balasore recorded the highest rainfall of 137 mm in the past 24 hours. Rain is forecast across several parts of Odisha until August 16.
