Don A. Stevens, M.D., Medical Oncologist at Norton Healthcare, explains what lymphoma is and if there are clinical trials available for lymphoma patients.
We're trying to look at having as many clinical trials as we can for the common lymphomas at various points, newly diagnosed, relapsed. Patients will have unique characteristics that may give them the opportunity to participate in this trial and not this one. Every clinical trial has a list of inclusion criteria, you must have this, this, this, and this to participate. They have exclusion criteria, you may not have this, this, and this. An example of this one is that that the inclusion criteria, for example, it may specify exactly what type of lymphoma you have to have. In the case of an exclusion criteria, perhaps it's not a drug that would be good for diabetics, or it’s not a drug that would be good for someone with heart disease. So that would be an example of something that would exclude you from the trial.
