Odisha Weather Alert: IMD issues red warning | 20+ CM rainfall forecast amid flood crisis

Описание: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, following the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather system is expected to become more marked and move nearly northwestwards during the next 24 hours. The IMD has warned that some parts of Odisha could receive more than 20 cm of rainfall within 24 hours, raising concerns as several districts continue to deal with flooding.

The weather department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts from August 16 to 18. Squally weather with winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, is also expected.

Meanwhile, Odisha continues to face flooding, with around one lakh people evacuated to relief centres. According to the Special Relief Commissioner’s office, around 2.70 lakh people across 503 villages in 52 blocks have been affected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

The state government has placed district collectors on alert as authorities continue monitoring the situation.
