The 2008 season, like the year prior, saw a fierce championship battle between two veterans; this time, it was between defending 3-time champion Ron Hornaday and Cup Series veteran Johnny Benson. The duo fought hard, scoring a combined 11 wins on the season between them. Interlaced between the champion fight was a series of first-time winners, including Scott Speed, Donny Lia, and a future truck series legend Matt Crafton. The title fight would come down to the final race, with Johnny Benson edging out Ron Hornaday by a single position for the title.
