The famous bulgarian kavaldjia Stoyan Velichkov was born in 1930 in the village of Zidarovo in Burgas region. He was part of the Folk music ensemble of The Bulgarian National Radio for 35 years. His performances include authentic music from Thrace and Strandja regions. He passed away on 20.06.2008.
The kaval is a musical instrument that used to be very popular amongst shepherds throughout the Balkans. So it's not surprising to find motives about essential elements of the shepherd's lives in music performed on kaval.
