Uncertainty has deepened over whether the proposed Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Elections 2026 will be held on time or postponed. The Yogi government has informed the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court through an affidavit that a dedicated Backward Classes Commission will be constituted before the elections.
Based on the commission’s report and a rapid survey, OBC reservation for panchayat seats will be determined.
Only after finalizing the OBC quota on this basis will the election process move forward.

उत्तर प्रदेश में प्रस्तावित पंचायत चुनाव-2026 समय पर होंगे या टल जाएंगे, इस पर अब संशय गहरा गया है. योगी सरकार ने इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट की लखनऊ बेंच में दाखिल हलफनामे में स्पष्ट किया है कि चुनाव से पहले एक समर्पित पिछड़ा वर्ग आयोग का गठन किया जाएगा. इस आयोग की रिपोर्ट और रैपिड सर्वे के आधार पर ही पंचायत सीटों पर ओबीसी आरक्षण तय होगा, जिसके बाद चुनाव की प्रक्रिया आगे बढ़ेगी
