How to correctly install gas struts into a caravan overhead cupboard. The larger diameter of the strut needs to be located at the top and the internal shaft toward the bottom of the cupboard. Installing the strut this way allows the internal lubricating oil to sit on the seal so it and the shaft is properly lubricated. This also stops the seal from drying out causing it to crack and the gas to escape causing the strut to no longer work as it was intended.
