This recording was captured on 13.432 MHz using a WebSDR receiver, and features a weak, distant HF voice transmission that stood out due to its distorted, fading, and almost eerie sound.
At first listen, it may sound unusual or unsettling — but this is a great example of how single-sideband (SSB) voice, long-distance propagation, and imperfect tuning can combine to create truly strange audio on the shortwave bands.
🔍 What you’re hearing:
HF voice-based transmission
Likely SSB (Single Sideband)
Long-distance signal affected by ionospheric skip
Fading, warbling, and muffled audio caused by propagation + tuning offset
❌ This is not a numbers station
❌ Not digital modes like FT8 or RTTY
❌ Not paranormal — but definitely fascinating
🌍 Shortwave radio is full of signals that sound bizarre until you understand what’s happening behind the scenes. That’s what makes listening so addictive.
