India is reportedly preparing for a possible evacuation of its citizens from Iran amid escalating unrest and a widening crackdown on protests. According to sources, the External Affairs Ministry (EAM) has begun planning to facilitate the return of Indian nationals who wish to come back home, following an urgent advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
Officials say the embassy is currently ascertaining the number of Indians seeking evacuation, but efforts are being hampered by an internet shutdown imposed by Iranian authorities. Any evacuation will depend on multiple factors, including airspace clearance, aircraft availability, and accurate data on students and workers in Iran.
The developments come shortly after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, discussing the evolving situation in and around Iran. While India issued a readout of the call, Tehran did not release any official statement.
