Eatonville, Florida is the oldest self-governing Black municipality in the United States. Founded in 1887 by formerly enslaved people, it became a thriving community and the hometown of writer Zora Neale Hurston.
Today, Eatonville is at risk of losing more than 100 acres of historically Black-owned land. This video shares the voices of local activists and historians working to ensure the community has a say in what happens next.
