Odisha: Dolphin Census Begins In Chilika Lake After Sightings Across Lagoon

Описание: A dolphin census has begun in Odisha’s Chilika Lake after dolphins were sighted at multiple locations. Chilika Wildlife Division DFO Amlan Nayak said the exercise will continue for three days, with census units operating from Balugaon and Satapada. A total of 18 routes have been identified and mapped using GPS points by scientists from the Chilika Development Authority. Teams will use boats with five to six members each to record dolphin positions, angles, and distances using binoculars, laser rangefinders, and GPS devices. The exercise began at 6 am and will conclude by noon each day. Last year’s census recorded 174 dolphins, including 159 Irrawaddy dolphins and 15 humpback dolphins.
