The Outreach and Protection/Education on the Streets Program was established by Childhope Asia Philippines (CHAP) as part of its continuing mission to advocate and protect the rights of street children. The program allows Childhope to work at the very frontlines, serving as the initial contact to deliver much needed aid and services directly to street children - right on the streets. It is a form of alternative education that assists street children through psychosocial interventions, to enable them to protect themselves while on the streets and to motivate them to reflect on their situation and plan their life goals.
The goal of the program is to educate street children to protect themselves on the streets while motivating them to give up life on the streets. Depending on the situation and background of the child, he or she is either reconciled with the family and community or referred to temporary shelter for further care.
It aims to ensure that these children, who are marginalized, are still able to enjoy their basic rights as human persons, specifically as children, to the fullest.
