As I’m working on a skillet handle, I take a few minutes to give some pointers on bending metal the hard way (on the apex). I bend the steel flat bar on the horn of the anvil using a mallet. It is essential to get the metal hot and to use the right kind of tongs. To know how to best bend the metal, it helps to understand what is happening. The inside metal of the bend is compressing, while the outside is stretching.
