Ejected from the Homeless Shelter - he returned as Managing Director and stayed sober 62 years

Описание: The turning point of Clancy Imislun’s life occurred at the absolute lowest rung of society: the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles. In a moment of ultimate "rock bottom," he was ejected from the mission and found himself living in an abandoned car behind an AA meeting hall.

It was here that his 62-year journey of continuous sobriety began. Through the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, Clancy didn't just stop drinking; he rebuilt his life from the ground up, eventually reuniting with his family and achieving a poetic "full circle" moment when he returned to the Midnight Mission—not as a homeless castaway, but as its Managing Director.

Clancy became a legendary figure in the recovery world, founding the Pacific Group and traveling globally to share his experience, strength, and hope. He was a man of immense wit and deep spiritual insight, often appearing in films and influencing thousands through his sponsorship.

His philosophy moved beyond mere abstinence, focusing instead on a total psychic change. As Clancy famously noted, the true purpose of the program is to "do very slowly what alcohol did fast"—to fundamentally alter one's perception of reality and find a life of lasting dignity.

At the time of his passing in 2020 at the age of 93, Clancy left behind a legacy of six decades of sobriety and a blueprint for transformation.

His story remains a powerful testament to the fact that no matter how far down the scale a person has gone, they can still become a pillar of strength and a beacon for others.

His life serves as a reminder that recovery is not just about staying "dry," but about transitioning from the "black and white" of isolation into the vibrant color of a life centered on service and spiritual growth.

This audio is from when Clancy spoke in West Covina California on Christmas 1996.
