This episode examines the Book of Mormon’s warning about the great and abominable church through Christ’s words in Matthew 9:12. Jesus was not praising the “whole,” but exposing those who believe they are whole and therefore see no need for repentance, revelation, or a Savior. Spiritual self-sufficiency, not open wickedness, is the real danger.
Using Lehi’s vision of the Tree of Life and Nephi’s explanation, we show how the great and spacious building represents a powerful religious system that mocks the humble followers of the word of God. The great and abominable church is marked by pride, fine apparel, centralized authority, wealth, and the belief that it already possesses all truth.
In contrast, the Church of the Lamb is small, meek, and dependent on Christ. This episode challenges assumptions about authority and righteousness, showing how Satan counterfeits God’s institutions and how true disciples are defined not by power or praise, but by humility and faithfulness to the word of God.
