The Pakistan Stock Exchange delivered one of the most dramatic sessions in recent history as the KSE-100 Index surged more than 5,000 points in a single day, reclaiming major psychological levels and restoring investor confidence after a period of persistent selling pressure. The rally pushed the index above the 161,000 level, marking a powerful rebound supported by strong market breadth and rising trading activity.

Total market volume exceeded 860 million shares compared to approximately 740 million in the previous session, indicating renewed participation across the exchange. Within the KSE-100 index itself, volume increased significantly to more than 402 million shares, highlighting stronger institutional and retail engagement.

Sector leadership was clearly dominated by the banking and exploration & production (E&P) sectors. Banking stocks alone contributed more than 10,000 points to the index gain, while E&P companies including OGDC and PPL added similar strength as global oil sentiment improved. Power, fertilizer, and oil marketing sectors also participated strongly in the rally.

Technically, the market benefited from a deeply oversold condition created after weeks of selling pressure. The index also managed to close above the critical 200-day exponential moving average, a key long-term trend indicator watched by institutional investors.

However, the next resistance zone lies near the 163,200 level where previous price gaps exist. Whether the market continues higher or faces profit-taking will likely depend on upcoming monetary policy expectations and global risk sentiment.
