And pro-China influencer “Gym Boss” continues with his online stunts, which are generating controversy after controversy. In the latest one, he headed to China’s Fujian Province to track down the Lai family clan distantly related to Taiwan President Lai Ching-te. In order to make a point about cross-strait family ties, he photoshopped a picture of his guide in China, turning his bald head into Lai’s signature middle part.

Influencer “Gym Boss” is back to his online shenanigans, this time purportedly tracing the roots of Taiwan President Lai Ching-te at the Lai Clan Temple in Zhangzhou, China.

The people in Taiwan need to take a look. If you say you’re not Chinese, then where are you from? It’s the same blood!

He posted a photo of the visit on Facebook, standing next to a man with a middle part identical to Lai Ching-te’s. The caption “Blood doesn’t lie,” sparked heated discussion, but it turns out the picture was maliciously altered.

Netizens posted the original picture, comparing the photo to the livestream footage. It turns out the man was actually bald throughout the visit, only to appear with a head full of hair in that one photo.

As soon as I saw the photo I thought it was either AI-generated or altered. It was a patched-up fake. Using such crude means for propaganda to promote unification shows just how low Gym Boss is willing to stoop. It’s also evidence of how far China is willing to go with its tactics to promote unification.

Even though footage from the livestream is readily available, the influencer saw no problem in trying to pass a fake photo as genuine. Now that he’s been exposed, backlash is intense.
