Anakin marches through the halls of the Jedi Temple, blue lightsaber humming while his footsteps echo off the ancient walls. He steps over the bodies of the fallen Jedi while behind him, a squad of clone troopers follows in perfect formation, their blasters ready. Palpatine assured him that the clones would be completely obedient to the activation of Order 66.

Anakin’s heart pounds as he moves deeper into the Temple, feeling the purpose of his mission guiding him. But the same can’t be said for his clones. There is something off about them as they seem to falter.

When they arrived at the Temple, the troopers were completely obedient, but something was wrong now as they tilted their heads and clutched their temples. Some even drop to their knees. Anakin frowns and looks over at them.

Anakin: What’s happening?

Clone: I… I don’t know, sir. Head’s pounding. I can’t think straight…

Anakin: Focus!

Suddenly, Anakin feels his com-link coming to life and the emperor’s voice crackles with urgency.

Palpatine: There has been a change of plan, Anakin. Leave the Temple, now!

Before Anakin can respond, the clones suddenly straighten. Their blasters shift in his direction, and one of them speaks, his voice hollow, mechanical.

Clone: Anakin Skywalker, you are under arrest by order of the Galactic Senate.

Anakin’s eyes widen as he readies his weapon. But all across the channels, he hears this order being relayed. It isn’t some malfunction, something very wrong has happened. Before he can register this, Anakin moves to block their blaster fire.

Anakin leaps up and thrusts his hand forward, tossing the troopers aside as he sprints past towards the hangar. The guards there order him to halt, but his lightsaber is already flashing as he blocks their attacks and hurries toward a Jedi starfighter. He leaps into the cockpit and flies off into the Coruscant night.

Shortly after, he receives coordinates from Palpatine that take him to his private hangar. There, the chancellor is waiting and orders him aboard his private ship. Once they are in orbit, he begins to explain just what happened.

While he had ordered Order 66, something went terribly wrong as for some reason, the senate had rescinded his order by activating Order 65 which superseded, Palaptine’s command.

As they tune into the holo-net to see what happened, the group sees Padme speaking before the senate, explaining how there was a plot against them that nearly overthrew the Republic. But she isn’t alone. Standing alongside her is Ahsoka and Darth Maul.

It turns out that in their initial encounter on Mandalore, Ahsoka had believed Maul and convinced him to testify against his master. With the evidence she gathered, Ahsoka secretly sent it to Padme to help the Jedi prepare. This in turn allowed them to react quickly when Order 66 was enacted.

Hearing this, Palpatine snarls in anger and smashes the screen, shaking his head.

Palpatine: Years of plotting all undermined because of a child.

Anakin: The battle is not lost yet, my master. We are still alive so that means we can turn things around.

Palpatine: Boldly spoken for one so young. Your enthusiasm is good to hear because I still have a plan. Take us to Umbara!

After the Republic intervened on the planet, the native Umbarans never forgave the clone forces and were eager to help the emperor, especially since Senator Sly Moore remains one of Palpatine’s strongest allies. Once they arrive, she pledges funds and supplies, but Palpatine knows it is not enough. The Umbarans are a deceitful and opportunistic people who will only back them as long as it's convenient

As he continues to train Anakin, Palpatine reaches out to his contacts across the galaxy, criminals, slavers, and cartels to raise an army. Meanwhile, the former Jedi fully embraces his dark side teachings as he sees Ahsoka and Padme helping the Republic. To him, this is a personal betrayal. While he has mixed feelings about his former padawan and wife, unconditional loyalty to his master causes him to turn his back on them.

Slowly, the two begin building an army with the Umbarans providing them with weapons and training. This consists mainly of slave soldiers, conscripts, and mercenaries. While not as effective as the clones, Anakin trains them relentlessly, ruthlessly culling any signs of weakness and turning them into an army of killers.

His presence inspires a sense of fear and soon it comes time to strike. Rather than strike at the Republic which even weakened after the war, remains the dominant force, Anakin instead leads his troops to attack the Outer Rim where many planets are left defenseless.
