Oyotunji Yoruba African Village is the first intentional community based on the culture of Africa, founded (1970) in America. The year 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the oldest authentic Yoruba African Village in North America. As we look back with 20/20 Vision and view the achievements of the first 50 years of the African Cultural Restoration Movement in America, we see that much has been accomplished. There is still much work to do. Now if we look forward realistically with 20/20 Vision we see unlimited possibilities, potential, promise for African people worldwide.
2020 will mark five decades (50 years) of pioneering, development, work and struggle for the first African Village in North America. We are Planning a year of expansion and celebration. Due to the shortage of time, a tremendous effort by all African centered people is requested to join with us in this sacred work. The Priesthood of Oyotunji invite any and all who see Africa as the center of the world, to work with us to prepare for this historical event. We want to develop and expand all facilities and departments at Oyotunji. Just as it takes an entire village to raise a child; it takes many committed, dedicated people to build and maintain a nation. Nothing is reborn, full blown, grown and perfect. We are a nation in the process of becoming. We want to include your offering of assistance in our efforts. Those who have expertise or know persons with expertise in these and other areas such as: Fund raising, Resource Development (Human and Material), Publicity and Promotion, Construction and Building Trades, Agriculture and Landscaping, Accounting, Secretarial, Legal, Media and Performing Arts, Business, Arts and Crafts. These are some of the areas in which expertise is wanted and or needed and if you don't see your specialty, don't feel left out. WE WANT YOU!!! Anyone with, energy, commitment, ideas or plans, to help make 2020 a year our people will long and fondly remember.
We can and must work together for our children and their children, our Ancestors and ourselves. There is no time like now! There's much work still to be done. We must never again allow our divine essence to be denied; our psychological integrity to be challenged or our freedom jeopardized. We have tried everything else. NOW: LET US RELEARN HOW TO BE OUR NATURAL AFRICAN SELVES!
