"Hi, my name is Matt Gallagher, the trumpet department chair and big band director here at the University Arts in Philadelphia PA. I’m also the principal trumpet of the Philly pops. Today I want to talk to you about the Soulo Mute adjustable cup. Recently I spoke with Mike Jarosz about his new cut mute and he gave me one to try and I've been playing for a little while now and I think I found a cup that I can play multitude of styles with. Throughout the years I've had to go between a couple different mutes, depending on the playing situation and it can be frustrating at times because it's you know some inconsistencies or whatever. I do anything between orchestra, pit orchestra, brass quintet, classical solo, big band...you name it, where I need to kind of get different kinds of sounds and consistent sounds that is on the cup mute. Um, it’s very lightweight it's easy to take in and out of the horn, um the pitch is very even throughout the full register of the horn. It's also very easy to adjust, um it’s also got whether you have in all the way in like this and kind of grab here and take it out and you're not going to really mess with the adjustment of the cup, which is nice. It's very lightweight but definitely gets a good classic cup mute sound. I'm going to play one excerpt from the Artunian trumpet concerto just so you can see something lyrical on the mute. So it gets a really nice sweet sound, which is nice. I'll play another excerpt from Count Basie Shiny Stocking. So again it gets a really cool classic cup sound. I'll play the same thing just where it's closed up all the way just so you can kind of see a difference in the sound all the way out. So again really, you want to have it kind of as close to the bell as possible to get that more classic sound, but depending on what your playing calls for you can really adjust it. But yeah, it's a great mute, really nice design, once again real lightweight, easy to take in and out of the horn and I think it's really good quality for playing all day kinds of different styles! So thanks for checking it out!"
