Cottonwood Lakes to Mt Whitney Summit and Portal June 19-22, 2021 Inyo Creek Fire Medical Rescue

Описание: We hiked roughly 40 miles from Horseshoe Meadows, over New Army Pass, Rock Creek and Guitar Lake. We then summited Whitney with special permission from the Crabtree ranger that we could hike out the Portal if we had a car there. The morning of the summit I was feeling really bad (the afternoon before too) and couldn’t breathe. I had been taking diamox and am familiar with altitude sickness. This wasn’t that. It took 15 hours to summit from Guitar and descend to Trail Camp, 8.5 miles or so, where we were met with USFS Rangers who told us the Inyo creek fire had grown and we could no longer hike down and may need to hunker at Trail Camp for a day or two until it was safe. I arrived at Trail Camp unable to breathe still after hiking 15 hours at less than half mile an hour. I was wheezing and coughing and crying and they advised me that I should get down and be seen. They called a helicopter and 15 mins later I was at the hospital in Lone Pine diagnosed with Exercise induced Asthma. This has never happened to me before. 3 days later now, 3 drs visits, breathing treatments and several inhalers and I’m still not 100%. Hopefully this is a one time environmental event for me. The girls were able to rush hike down the next morning accompanied by the Rangers and get their car from the portal and escape the fire. That was my 3rd Whitney Summit in 5 years and definitely the biggest story. Thanks to everyone who helped me and especially to my hiking girls. Your team is everything and mine was the best I could have hoped for.
