An ignition fault code means that the burner has failed to light but the fault code can't tell you exactly why as there are numerous causes.

One of the main causes is an interruption of the gas supply to the boiler, in other words there is no gas getting to the appliance due to an issue with the gas meter.

The spark electrode/flame detection assembly has fouled up and may need cleaning.

A frozen or blocked condensate pipe.

Gas valve failure on some boilers will cause an ignition fault.

However if the coils on the gas valve on this particular boiler have failed it will generally go to a 2924 fault code, as the printed circuit board isn't getting a reading from the gas valve.

On the 8000 and older CDI models that precede this model there is a non return valve that sits above then fan called a "bearing plate membrane".

The bearing plate membrane can get stuck on boilers of this design and restrict the flow of gas, it's not uncommon on these boilers once they're above a certain age.

It mentions this in the manual under possibility number 4 - Diaphragm is damaged or stuck.

If you look in the installation manual under the 227 fault code it states the following;

Tip: Check the ceramic insulator is not damaged, this can cause the spark to earth, twist and pull the ceramic insulator to ensure it is not broken.

1) Check the gas supply to property and the inlet on the gas valve.

2) Check the low pressure when the gas valve opens.

3) Gas valve failing to open: check for voltage to the valve and for possible blockage on inlet filter of the gas valve.

4) Obstruction in the air intake to the fan leading to incorrect CO2 ratio. Diaphragm is damaged or stuck.

5) Condensate trap is blocked or restricted. Condensate pipe is frozen.

6) Flue is blocked or restricted.

7) Heat exchanger is blocked or restricted.

8) Check the burner for damage.

9) Check the spark electrode or the lead failure.

10) Check the flame sense or the lead failure.

11) Check the rectification ground (black wire to heat exchanger)

If your boiler keeps going to ignition lockout fault code 227, then you should check the gas supply and ensure there are no issues with condensate pipework.

Aside from that you need to call a heating industry professional to have a look at your boiler.
