🦴 Most Common Surgical Approach for Total Knee Replacement
This short demonstrates the medial parapatellar approach, used in about 80% of knee replacements.
You’ll see:
• Vertical skin incision
• Exposure of the quad muscle, quad tendon, patella, and patellar tendon
• A deeper incision made next to the quad tendon, around the kneecap, and next to the patellar tendon
Pros:
✔️ Excellent exposure
✔️ Reliable and widely used
Considerations:
• VMO muscle detachment and repair
• Possible early quad weakness
• Risk of deep tissue irritation if overstressed
