समझेंगे कि क्यों PM Modi ने इसे कहा Mother of all Deals? Ministry of External Affairs के Foreign Service Institute में Guest Faculty हैं. School Of International Studies JNU की Chairperson भी. Professor Ummu Salma Bava.
The world order is no longer changing smoothly. Old equations are breaking, new ones are being formed. This was echoed last week in Davos. But its impact is visible from Brussels to Delhi—and in the relationship between Brussels and Delhi as well.
On January 26, the chief guest at India’s Republic Day parade was the European Union’s Commissioner, Ursula von der Leyen. And the very next day, a major deal was announced: the India–EU Free Trade Agreement.
What’s special is that this deal had been stuck for 18 years. So what suddenly happened that such a massive agreement—one that could push India–EU trade towards 250 billion dollars—was finalized all at once?
This is geopolitics. A disturbance in one corner of the world sends shockwaves across the globe, and something big and important happens—just like this deal.
So today, we’ll first try to understand this agreement. Why did Prime Minister Modi call it the “mother of all deals”? How will it benefit the common citizen? And why is the United States irritated as soon as this deal was announced?
We will understand all this from an expert who has observed this deal very closely—she was present in the room where the agreement was finalized. She has been honored with Germany’s highest civilian award, is a guest faculty member at the Ministry of External Affairs’ Foreign Service Institute, has served as Director of the UGC Europe Area Studies Programme, and as Chairperson of the School of International Studies at JNU. Her name is Professor Ummu Salma Bava.
