Welcome back to the Channel.
Julius Caesar provided the tagline for roman legions throughout the empire: "Veni, Vidi, Vici" which means I came, I saw, I conquered.
Wherever the Romans roamed, once they conquered resistance, they came out of their fortifications and began building Roman cities. You will find them scattered all over France, sometimes with considerable infrastructure still in clear view. In other cases, there are smaller pieces. Today we’re going to visit the area around Paris' Roman-era forum, the Rue Saint Jacques--the straightest street in Paris, and formerly the main north-south Roman street; the remains of the Roman baths, and the remains of the amphitheater, all in Paris' Left Bank, sometimes called the Latin Quarter, and more formally the fifth arrondisement. Afterward, I'll take you to a late lunch and we'll indulge in far too much bistro food.
